Conley Ball Ms. Alldredge English 8 June 7, 2017 Water Harvesting: A Solution To The Drought In a large city like Los Angeles, up to 10 billion gallons of water can be drained into the ocean during an average rainstorm. This water is not useful, because it is mixed with trash, but what if water was collected before it even got into the gutter? Rainwater harvesting is a good way for everybody to collect their own water. Not only can you collect water from your roof, but there are also ways to collect water from fog and air. There are two major ways to gather water from the air. The first way is Radiative. It collects mist, dew, and fog by radiating the heat into the night sky; this is called fog catching. The second way is Active. It pulls air from outside, and then uses refrigeration to cool it, turning it to liquid; this is called dehumidification (Wikipedia Air Wells). Is there more we can do to conserve water during the drought? The drought in Southern California has an obvious effect on all of us. We are encouraged to conserve water, and given ways to use less, but is there another way? The key may be to let average citizens collect their own water. An easy way to do this is to collect the water that falls on our roofs. The water could easily be filtered and stored in a tank, and if it isn’t potable, it can be used for irrigation.

A book that has been transformational for me was animal farm. It showed be how a book can be an analogy for something else entirely. It helped me see analogies in other books, as well as learn in a more interesting way about history. It was also a very meaningful book to me about how even if people have good intentions, they can lead to unintended ends. That book taught me not just about history, but about human nature as well.

And they have a story, or a person, that they know is right, and is morally good. But they don’t always go back to that. Sometimes, people will go with what they think is right at the moment, and so if everyone else is doing it, they assume that everyone else must be right. Eventually, even the most important and influential story will fade under a new way of thinking. Everyone needs a person or story close to them and that is personal. My story that I go back to is a simple one; It has been repeated many times. It starts with an idea, usually a bad idea, like the idea to kill a type of person, or segregate a type of person, or to judge someone by something that means nothing.           My visit the the Museum of Tolerance was different than I expected. It was very serious. We entered a dimly lit recreation of the streets of Berlin, but at a smaller scale. There were screens inside shops where we were told and shown how Hitler rose to power, and we saw well crafted examples of posters for Hitler or laws declared by him. We then changed settings to a wide hallway with crumbling brick walls on each side showing how Hitler ruled, and finally how he killed so many people.           As a witness to this history I need to understand, and to see to it that it doesn't repeat itself, as it eventually will. It is our responsibility to learn from our mistakes and I believe that we can delay something like this from happening for a long time.

This is a friendly letter from the point of view of a black union soldier to his mother.      Hi, I know why we are fighting this war. I know what the good reason is. I know that I should be happy that I'm fighting for our freedom, but I get paid less than they do. I have to work harder than the other soldiers.      I do not know why they give us less, even though the are fighting for us. This war is horrible. If we even see the other soldiers, we are lucky not to be dead. People die not even knowing what happened, and so many people die.      We have the hardest job, and we get the least. Bill of Rights on MARS!!!!! Mars would be 100% dependent on earth. All of their supplies and equipment would come from Earth. People on Mars would never risk breaking ties with Earth by making a country. Assuming that people on Mars have some magical technology that doesn't make them dependent on earth, here would be their bill of rights. Amendment 1: The right of free speech and religion They would have instant streaming access to Earth, to communicate using the internet. CRINGE WARNING When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for me to dissolve the bands which have connected me with Homework, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that I should declare the causes which impel me to the separation. Homework cost just too much time for me to still rely on it. Homework is badly organized, some days I have no homework other days I have three or four assignments. Homework does not work for me, I would prefer classwork and tests, then homework as well. My grade can go down because I turned in a paper late.

Life in the colonies was very different than my life today. Formal Education was uncommon in the colonial era, but today we go from preschool to college and lots of the time past that. Almost half of children died before they reached adulthood in the colonial era, but today dying as a child is extremely uncommon. Colonial law was fairly similar to law today. For leisure in the colonies people would gather to do certain activities. Today leisure for me is video games. Religion in Puritan colonies was very strict. Religious laws had harsh punishment. Today religion is completely free. Life in the colonies was way harder than life today (for me).

         In english we are reading a book titled An Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian , a very strange book. The main character of this book is named Junior. He identifies with many different "tribes". I am supposed to list three "tribes" I identify with. The first "tribe" I identify with is the tribe of Karate brown belts not wanting to test for black belt. The second "tribe" I identify with is the tribe of people living in California. I also identify with the "tribe" cat lovers. So now you know even more things about me.    

Things to describe me. I am supposed to answer these questions so that you can know who I am: Where I come from: I come from Washington. Not Washington D.C., Washington the state. I am from Issaquah, a small town near Seattle. What matters (to me): Cats, cats are nice.  What I love:  Cats. Cheese too, Cheese is good.  Where I am going:  I would love to say that I am going to change the world, but I find that statistically unlikely. I am going to High school, I am going to college. I am going to always like cats.  What I dread:  Death. Not because it's scary, but because it would be annoying to die before I can live my whole life.  What I hope for:  Lunch.
