How the Colonial Era Relates to My Life

Life in the colonies was very different than my life today. Formal Education was uncommon in the colonial era, but today we go from preschool to college and lots of the time past that. Almost half of children died before they reached adulthood in the colonial era, but today dying as a child is extremely uncommon. Colonial law was fairly similar to law today. For leisure in the colonies people would gather to do certain activities. Today leisure for me is video games. Religion in Puritan colonies was very strict. Religious laws had harsh punishment. Today religion is completely free. Life in the colonies was way harder than life today (for me).

This is a friendly letter from the point of view of a black union soldier to his mother.      Hi, I know why we are fighting this war. I know what the good reason is. I know that I should be happy that I'm fighting for our freedom, but I get paid less than they do. I have to work harder than the other soldiers.      I do not know why they give us less, even though the are fighting for us. This war is horrible.
